1851年5月, at the Second 俄亥俄州 Wo男人’s Rights Convention at the Old Stone Church in Akron, 俄亥俄州, 索杰纳·特鲁斯, 一个前奴隶和不请自来的演讲者, raised up her imposing six-foot presence and electrified the audience with a powerful speech now known as “Ain’t I a Woman?”  That speech, which many historians consider to be the most important woman’s rights speech in U.S. history, could have easily faded from the memory of most 俄亥俄州ans.  But Truth’s life will live on in a statue and plaza near the actual site of the speech through the work of the Summit Suffrage Centennial Committee. 显著, this will be the first public statue of an African American woman in 俄亥俄州 and the largest public art statue of an African American woman.
