Fonts

We use four primary typefaces:

Open Sans

This is our primary body copy typeface. In addition to body copy, this can appear in headline constructions, subheads, captions, labels, etc.

Prohibition

This is a strong, condensed typeface that speaks to the bold, rising qualities of UA.

Spectral

This is a sophisticated typeface that is both classic and modern. It provides an elegant complement to the strong Prohibition typeface. Use this for moments of impact like headlines or large text.

ADELLE

Adelle Semibold is a typeface with a lot of character, but doesn’t compete for attention. Use this for accent moments or small labels, such as callouts, labels, subheads, etc. This should always be tracked out (more spacing between letters).

Note: Adelle is not provided in the Toolbox because users will have to manually download them via the Adobe Fonts website.

Go to the link above and type in the search bar Adelle. You can then activate the font by signing into Adobe with your UAnet ID. Once you’ve done that it will automatically be turned on in the Adobe Creative Suite.

When to use these fonts

These fonts are primarily used on print materials. Please complete the UCM Job Request Form to start a new project or update an existing document. Campus designers should contact UCM to acquire the primary typefaces.

For web, our global CSS will be updated to automatically adopt these fonts where appropriate - no editor intervention will be necessary.

For PC users, electronic materials like Microsoft Outlook and Word may use the following font substitutions:

• Arial (in place of Open Sans) - for body copy.
• Georgia (in place of Spectral) - for headlines or large text.
• Impact (in place of Prohibition) - for large words used as artwork and drawing attention.
